Hi, my name is Charles Furnivall. I was introduced to home brewing by my dad, who started making his own beer, in Farnham, Surrey England way back in the early 1970s, at the time when home brewing really started to become popular in England. He started off with Caxton's beer kits. Unfortunately, Caxton's not available in North America.
I enjoyed a lot of his beer, which was a great lager. I personally prefer ale; however, when I was offered his beer, I was not about to refuse! I was always fascinated how he brewed his own beer, and listened as he explained what he was doing. He was always excited about his brews, and how his latest batch was his greatest.
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I left England in the mid 1970s, joining Price Waterhouse in their Montreal, Canada office, eventually settling in Toronto, after working one year at Price Waterhouse's Los Angeles office. All my working life I have been plying my trade as a tax accountant.
While I was an Articled Clerk, working in the "City", I played rugger for two senior London clubs. When I moved to Montreal, I was welcomed to the Montreal Irish, where I had two great seasons. I had been selected for the Canadian national squad, to play the Barbarians on their North American tour when I had a serious back injury, that forced me to retire from the game.
My wife, Viviane, and I now enjoy the country, living in Caledon, just north west of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
